about

The legend of the mute with the snare around the neck is very singular, not so much for the legend itself as for the basis of truth. Once upon a time there was a kid who was a fisherman; this kid had received a special gift from his father (it is said that he was the son of the Ticino river) in inheritance. His fishing net, heritage from ancient pagan gods, had the magical power to petrify anything it touched and, when removed, to make it return to the way it was before; fishing in this way was quite simple for him, it was enough for the net to touch the fishes to petrify them and then make them return to their original state. The problem arose when the fisherman and a damsel fell in love; he was of humble origins while she was the daughter of a rich and powerful noble family of Pavia. After discovering this relationship, the father (or mother, depending on the version of the story) forbade his daughter to see him, so the two decided to run away. However, the father noticed it and gave chase to join them on the banks of the Ticino. At that point the young fisherman sacrificed the thing dearest to him, he used the fishing net to petrify him and tied it tightly around his neck before the man, become a statue, sank. This legend is probably the most famous and ancient relating to the city, the peculiarity lies in the fact that around 1800 the river was drained to be able to clean the seabed and a statue dating back to the first century after Christ was found of an unrecognizable person with a net around the neck. It is now exhibited in the civic museums of the Visconti castle

lyrics

Dei a me cari che donate segreti

Ora sei carne e pietra
Subendo il destino per mano incantata
Morta nei lasciti della magia
Tu che volevi rubare il segreto amore
Ora sei marmo inerte
